As of September 1, 2009, we need just $40,000 to complete the Project!
As our current report from Mali indicates, the clinical study is now fully enrolled and will be completed in March of 2010. Because the Mali Staff has agreed to continue their efforts with only nominal stipends for all but the three principal researchers, the monthly salary budget for these final eight months is $2,700–only about a third of the previous level. (The US coordinators have worked pro bono on this project since its inception.) Council leadership fees are averaging about $1,000 a month and transportation compensation for participants coming in for testing and council groups is also averaging about $1,000. There are additional administrative, local travel, insurance and testing costs that average another $1,000 each month, bringing the total monthly budget to about $5,700. Thus the total for the last seven months of the program is $39,900.
The total cost of the program, since its inception in 2006, is now estimated to be $350,000, of which we have raised $310,000 from 210 donors—the gifts ranging in size from $10 to $25,000. We invite those of you have already supported the program to help us again. We encourage new donors to join us in supporting this ground-breaking study. No gift is too small!
